Right Now, Anyone in the World Can Send Email as Your Company

Unless somebody has specifically stopped it, that's true of most businesses. A criminal types your company name in the From field, sends an invoice to your customer, and it arrives looking exactly like you sent it.

They don't need to hack anything. They don't need a password. They just need your domain name, which is printed on your truck.

Lazer IT Consultants sets up and manages email authentication for businesses across Palm Desert, Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, La Quinta, Indio, and the greater Coachella Valley. It's included in every one of our managed plans.

Free. No form, no email required, no obligation. Most businesses are surprised by what it says.

Two Problems, One Fix

Email authentication solves two things at once, and most business owners have only ever worried about one of them.

1 PEOPLE PRETENDING TO BE YOU Without authentication in place, anybody can send email that appears to come from your domain. Your customers get a fake invoice with new banking details. Your staff get a message from "the owner" asking for an urgent wire. It lands in the inbox looking legitimate because, as far as the receiving mail server knows, it is.
2 YOUR REAL EMAIL NOT ARRIVING The same records that stop impersonation are what mail providers now use to decide whether to trust you. Set up wrong or not at all, your quotes, invoices, and replies are more likely to land in spam. You'll never get a bounce message — the customer just doesn't respond and you assume they went elsewhere.

One set of DNS records fixes both. Most businesses have it configured wrong, partially, or not at all.

What Changed, and Why It Matters Now

This used to be optional. It isn't anymore.

Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft have all moved to rejecting unauthenticated bulk mail outright rather than quietly filing it in junk. Microsoft returns a permanent error, and here's the part that catches people: a recipient adding you to their safe senders list doesn't override it, because the check happens before personal allow lists are even consulted.

The hard rejection rules apply to high-volume senders, so most Coachella Valley businesses won't see mail bounce tomorrow. But the bar has moved for everyone. Google now expects authentication from all senders, not just bulk ones, and Yahoo wants both SPF and DKIM regardless of how much you send. Properly authenticated senders are landing in the inbox at a dramatically higher rate than unauthenticated ones.

Which means this has quietly stopped being a security topic and started being a getting paid topic.

What We Actually Do

1 WE FIND EVERYTHING THAT SENDS EMAIL AS YOU Not just Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace. Your accounting software, your CRM, your scheduling tool, your marketing platform, your alarm company's notifications, the copier that emails scans. Every one of them sends mail using your name, and every one has to be accounted for or you'll start blocking your own systems.
2 WE SET UP SPF, DKIM, AND DMARC PROPERLY The three records that prove an email genuinely came from you. Configured correctly, aligned with each other, and tested — not copied from a forum post and left alone for four years.
3 WE WALK YOU TO ENFORCEMENT SAFELY This is the part most people get wrong. Turning on blocking too early stops your own legitimate mail. We start in monitoring mode, watch what's actually sending, fix what's broken, and only then tighten it down. Done in the right order, nothing you send stops arriving.
4 WE MONITOR IT FOREVER This isn't a one-time setup. You add a new software vendor, somebody changes a mail setting, a record expires. We watch the reports continuously and you get alerted when something changes — including when somebody out there starts trying to impersonate you.

It's Already In Your Plan

Some providers sell this as a separate line item, or as a project with a price tag attached. We don't.

Email authentication is part of every managed plan we offer — setup, the walk to enforcement, ongoing monitoring, and the reporting. It sits alongside the rest of the security stack that's included rather than upsold: 24/7 monitoring, endpoint detection and response, SOC coverage, ransomware and dark web protection, email filtering, and multi-factor authentication.

If you're our client, your domain is protected. If you're not, find out in eight seconds whether yours is.

What Goes Wrong Without It

1 YOUR CUSTOMER PAYS A CRIMINAL A fake invoice arrives from your domain with different banking details. They pay it, because why wouldn't they. Then they call you about the invoice they already settled, and the conversation that follows is the worst one in business.
2 YOUR QUOTES SIT IN SPAM You sent it Tuesday. They never saw it. You assume they went with somebody else, and in a sense they did — but not for the reason you think.
3 YOUR STAFF GET FAKE MESSAGES FROM YOU "The owner" emails accounting asking for an urgent transfer, on a Friday afternoon, marked confidential. Authentication is one of the layers that stops that message from arriving in the first place.
4 YOUR INSURANCE APPLICATION ASKED ABOUT THIS Cyber carriers increasingly ask about email authentication and controls. If the answer on your application doesn't match your DNS records, that's a problem you'd rather discover now than during a claim.

Why Us

  • We do the enforcement walk properly — Most domains we inherit are stuck in monitoring mode, which means someone published a record and stopped. That blocks nothing. Getting to actual enforcement without breaking your mail is the work.
  • We find the senders nobody thinks of — The scanner, the CRM, the payroll system, the invoicing platform. Missing one is how businesses accidentally block their own email.
  • Included, not upsold — Part of every managed plan, alongside the rest of the security stack. There's no email security tier.
  • You get reporting in plain English — Who's sending as you, what's passing, what's failing, and what we did about it. Branded to us, readable by you.
  • We answer in 5 minutes — When somebody forwards you a suspicious email asking "is this real," a fast answer is the entire defense.
  • Local since 2010 — 4.9 stars from 100+ Coachella Valley businesses.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are SPF, DKIM, and DMARC in plain English?

Three DNS records that together prove an email genuinely came from you. SPF is a list of the servers allowed to send mail using your domain. DKIM is a digital signature proving the message wasn't altered in transit. DMARC is the instruction telling receiving mail servers what to do when a message fails those checks — ignore it, put it in spam, or reject it entirely. You don't need to understand the mechanics. You need all three configured, aligned, and set to actually block something.

How do I know if we have this set up?

Scan your domain. It takes about eight seconds and tells you exactly what's published, what's missing, and whether your policy is actually blocking anything. Most businesses find they have some of it, configured years ago, doing less than they assumed.

We have a DMARC record already. Are we protected?

Maybe not. The most common setup we inherit is a policy set to monitor only, which reports on impersonation attempts but blocks none of them. It satisfies a checklist and stops nothing. Whether you're actually protected depends on the policy setting and whether your legitimate senders are properly aligned — which is exactly what the scan shows.

Will this stop our own emails from being delivered?

Not if it's done in the right order, and this is the main reason people are nervous about it. We start in monitoring mode, identify every system that legitimately sends as your domain, fix what's misaligned, and only then tighten enforcement. Rushing straight to blocking is how businesses take down their own invoicing. That's why the walk matters more than the record.

Does this fix emails going to spam?

It's one of the biggest factors. Mail providers use authentication to decide whether to trust you, and properly authenticated senders reach the inbox at a far higher rate than unauthenticated ones. It isn't the only factor — list quality, content, and sending reputation all matter — but it's the one that's entirely within your control and the one most businesses have wrong.

Do the new Google and Microsoft rules apply to us?

The hard rejection rules target senders above roughly 5,000 messages a day, which most local businesses won't reach. But Google now expects authentication from all senders and Yahoo wants both SPF and DKIM regardless of volume. So the honest answer is that your mail probably won't bounce tomorrow — it'll just be more likely to land in spam, and the bar has been moving in one direction for two years.

Is this included or extra?

Included. Setup, the walk to enforcement, ongoing monitoring, and reporting are part of every managed plan we offer. There's no separate email security tier to decline.

We use Microsoft 365. Doesn't that handle it?

Microsoft 365 handles your mailboxes. It does not publish or manage the DNS records that tell the rest of the world which servers are allowed to send as you. Those live with whoever controls your domain, and they have to account for every system that sends on your behalf — not just Microsoft.

How long does it take to set up?

The records go in quickly. Getting safely to enforcement usually takes a few weeks, because we want to watch real sending activity before tightening anything. Rushing it is how people break their own mail.

What areas do you serve?
