Where Is That File?
Lazer IT Consultants provides cloud services, Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace management, and cloud migrations for businesses across Palm Desert, Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, La Quinta, Indio, and the greater Coachella Valley.
Most companies didn't decide to move to the cloud. It happened to them.
Somebody signed up for a Microsoft account years ago. Somebody else started using their personal Google Drive because it was easier. A file got emailed as an attachment, edited, and emailed back, and now there are four versions and nobody knows which one is current. An employee left two years ago and their OneDrive is still sitting there with company files in it, because nobody knew it existed.
So your team asks the same three questions every week. Where is that file? Who has the latest version? Why can't I get into that document?
That's not a cloud problem. That's a nobody-designed-this problem. We fix it once, properly, and then you stop thinking about it.

First, an Honest Answer About the Cloud
Plenty of IT companies will tell you everything belongs in the cloud. That's not true, and you should be suspicious of anybody who says it without asking about your business first.
Some things belong in the cloud. Email almost always does. File storage usually does. Some things don't — a design firm moving enormous files all day, or a business running software that was never built to work well over an internet connection, is often better off with a server in the closet. And plenty of companies are best served by a mix.
What matters is your software, your internet, your budget, and how your team actually works. We'll give you a straight recommendation based on that, including when the answer is "leave it where it is."
What We Actually Do
| 1 | WE MOVE YOU WITHOUT LOSING A DAY | Migrations planned around your calendar and executed after hours or over a weekend. Email, files, permissions, and history all come across. Your team logs in Monday morning and everything is where it should be. We've done this enough times to know where it goes wrong. |
| 2 | WE DESIGN IT SO FILES STAY FINDABLE | A structure that makes sense for how your business works, with permissions set deliberately instead of accumulated by accident. Version history on everything, so "who changed this" has an answer. And no more personal accounts holding company data. |
| 3 | WE SECURE IT PROPERLY | Multi-factor authentication, conditional access, encryption, and monitoring. Cloud platforms are secure by design and misconfigured constantly — the default settings on a new tenant are not what a business should be running. |
| 4 | WE BACK IT UP SEPARATELY | Microsoft and Google protect their own infrastructure. They do not protect you from a deleted mailbox after retention expires, a ransomware-encrypted file sync, or a departing employee wiping a shared drive. File sync is not backup. We back your cloud up independently. |

What We Support
Microsoft 365
- Exchange and Outlook — Business email on your own domain, with filtering and security that actually works.
- Teams — Chat, meetings, and file sharing set up so people use it instead of working around it.
- OneDrive and SharePoint — Centralized storage with a structure and permissions designed on purpose.
- Windows 365 Cloud PC — A full Windows desktop in the cloud, reachable from a laptop, tablet, or home computer. Nothing lives on the device, so a stolen laptop is an inconvenience rather than a breach.
- Licensing and cost review — Most companies we take over are paying for licenses nobody uses and the wrong tier for the ones they do.
Google Workspace
- Gmail on your domain — Professional email, secured and filtered.
- Drive and Shared Drives — Company files owned by the company, not by whoever created them.
- Docs, Sheets, and Slides — Real-time collaboration without four versions of the same file.
- Meet and Chat — Configured and supported alongside everything else.
Cloud Infrastructure
- Cloud servers and hosting — When it makes sense to move a server off-premises, and an honest answer when it doesn't.
- Hybrid setups — Some workloads local, some in the cloud, connected properly and documented.
- Secure remote access — Staff working from home or a second location, with encryption, MFA, and access logging.
- Cloud-to-cloud migrations — Google to Microsoft, Microsoft to Google, or consolidating multiple tenants after an acquisition.
- Onboarding and offboarding — Accounts created on day one and fully removed the day somebody leaves, including their files handed back to the company.
Why Coachella Valley Businesses Choose Lazer IT
- We answer in 5 minutes — A live person, not a ticket form or a queue. Working your issue within 15 minutes on average.
- We tell you when the cloud isn't the answer — We're not paid on migrations. If your setup should stay where it is, we'll say so.
- Migrations that don't cost you a day — Planned, staged, and done outside your business hours.
- Security built in — MFA, conditional access, monitoring, and independent backup. Not the defaults Microsoft ships with.
- We handle the vendors — Microsoft and Google support queues are their own kind of misery. We deal with them so your staff doesn't have to.
- No lock-in — Month-to-month available, 90-day risk-free guarantee. And your tenant, your data, and your admin credentials belong to you.

What Goes Wrong Without a Plan
| 1 | COMPANY FILES IN PERSONAL ACCOUNTS | Somebody used their own Google or Dropbox account because it was faster. Now company data lives somewhere you don't control, can't audit, and can't get back when they leave. This is more common than almost anything else we find. |
| 2 | PERMISSIONS NOBODY EVER REVIEWED | Access gets granted over the years and never removed. Former employees with active logins. Interns who can still see payroll. A shared link somebody sent in 2021 that's still live and public. |
| 3 | ASSUMING IT'S BACKED UP | The most expensive misunderstanding in cloud computing. Sync is not backup — if a file gets encrypted or deleted, sync replicates that faithfully everywhere within seconds. |
| 4 | PAYING FOR WHAT YOU DON'T USE | Licenses for people who left, premium tiers nobody needed, and two overlapping platforms because a migration was never finished. Most companies we take over find real monthly savings in the first month. |
Working With a Local Partner You Can Actually Reach
Cloud services are supported by companies with 200,000 employees and a chat window. When something breaks at 8 a.m. and your whole office can't get into email, you don't want a chat window.
When you call Lazer IT, you get a technician who already knows your setup. We're a small local team, 20 minutes from your office instead of 2,000 miles away, and we've never outsourced a ticket to a third party in fifteen years of doing this.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should our business move everything to the cloud?
Probably not everything. Email almost always belongs in the cloud, and file storage usually does. But a business moving very large files all day, or running software that wasn't built to work over an internet connection, is often better off with a local server — and plenty of companies run a mix. It depends on your software, your internet, and how your team works. We'll tell you honestly, including when the answer is to leave things where they are.
Is Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace already backed up?
Not in the way most people assume. Both protect against their own infrastructure failing. Neither fully protects you from a deleted mailbox after retention expires, a ransomware-encrypted file sync, or a departing employee wiping a shared drive. File sync is not backup — if a file gets encrypted, sync copies that everywhere. We back these platforms up separately, and it's one of the first things we set up.
How long does a migration take and how much downtime is there?
For most small and mid-sized businesses, the move happens over a weekend or after hours, and staff log in the next morning to find everything where it should be. Larger or more complicated environments get staged in phases. Either way, we plan it around your calendar rather than ours, and we don't touch anything during a week you've told us you can't afford an interruption.
Will we lose email, files, or folder permissions?
No. Email, calendars, contacts, files, folder structure, and permissions all come across. The part that takes experience is the permissions and the edge cases — shared mailboxes, distribution lists, delegated calendars, and the folder somebody set up in 2014 that half the company depends on.
Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace — which should we use?
Whichever fits your business. Microsoft 365 is usually the better fit if you rely on Excel, Outlook, or Windows-based line-of-business software, and it has the stronger security and compliance tooling. Google Workspace is often better for teams that live in a browser and collaborate constantly. We support both and we don't get paid more for recommending either one.
What is Windows 365 Cloud PC?
A full Windows desktop running in the cloud that you reach from any device — a laptop, a tablet, a home computer. Your applications and files live in the cloud rather than on the hardware, so a lost or stolen device doesn't take company data with it. It works well for remote staff, seasonal workers, and businesses that want to stop buying a full workstation for everyone.
Can you help us stop using personal accounts for work?
Yes, and you should. Company data in a personal Google, Dropbox, or iCloud account isn't yours to control, audit, or recover when that person leaves. We move it into properly owned company storage and set things up so the shortcut isn't necessary anymore.
Can you reduce what we're spending on licenses?
Usually. Most companies we take over are paying for licenses assigned to people who left, premium tiers nobody needed, and sometimes two overlapping platforms because a migration was never finished. We audit it, right-size it, and tell you what's safe to cut.
Is the cloud secure?
The platforms are, but the way they're configured usually isn't. The default settings on a new tenant aren't what a business should be running. Multi-factor authentication, conditional access rules, sharing restrictions, and admin account protection all have to be set deliberately. Most breaches we see in cloud environments come from configuration and stolen passwords, not from Microsoft or Google being compromised.
What areas do you serve?
We serve businesses in Palm Desert, Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, La Quinta, Indio, Coachella, Thousand Palms, Desert Hot Springs, Blythe, and the surrounding Coachella Valley. Our office is at 73280 Hwy 111 Ste 102, Palm Desert.
Are we locked into a long-term contract?
No. Month-to-month agreements are available alongside longer terms, and every new client gets a 90-day risk-free guarantee with no contract buyout. Your tenant, your data, and your admin credentials belong to you.
